Moët: The Horse and the Champagne
As everyone in the NZ equestrian community will be painfully aware Horse of the Year 2021 was cancelled 2 days before we were due to depart. The truck was packed, the horses fit and ready to travel, and the Moët and Chandon champagne to celebrate or commiserate in the truck fridge ready for any eventuality.
After the shock and tears subsided we decided if we couldn’t get to HOY we needed “Pity Party”. Friends from far and wide descended on Happy Valley for what turned out to be a heck of a weekend! Horses were jumped (even a HOY dressage competitor), bubbles were consumed, and antics were aplenty! Thankfully “what goes on tour stays on tour”.
Somehow amongst the drinks and hilarity surprise, surprise, I spied and subsequently bought a new horse. Not just any horse mind due, a lovely warmblood gelding by Olympic mount Verdi TN sight unseen from Auckland! Sounds worse than it is…. I already own his mum and two little sisters so I knew what I was getting, plus who wouldnt want a cousin to Bentley. He was named Vermeer but it seemed appropriate to change his paddock name to Moët on his arrival, it seemed just right!
If you haven’t tried Moët and Chandon champagne it’s well worth it for a special occasion. The catch phrase for Moët and C handon is “Taste the Stars” and that’s exactly what it tastes like! The smooth flavour and the accompanying effervescence is a real delight. So sorry in advance if, or should I say when you become addicted!!!!
